Lena arrives in the country after her son’s death. She rents a room in Anna’s apartment; Anna is recovering from a heart transplant, and the donor was Lena’s son. Lena sets out to mend her grief by drawing close to the living part of her son that still beats inside Anna, doing everything she can to be near it. Anna struggles to accept the foreign heart in her body, and despite growing suspicions about its origin, she becomes attached to Lena, who longs only to hear her son’s heartbeat again.
